CONCEPT

A group of nineteenth-century construction workers stands arranged in an orderly and emblematic formation beneath a large arch on a building site.

Alluding to repetition as one of the recurring features of contemporary aesthetics, the image is reproduced multiple times and reinterpreted in various chromatic versions with vivid, bold tones, arranged in a grid against a black background.

Thus transformed, their silhouettes turn into an image in which the anonymous workers come to represent human endeavour at the dawn of the industrial era, while simultaneously conveying a reflection on the present.

This artwork invites a moment of reflection on the relationship between past and present in both contemporary spaces and more traditional ones.
